Young Voices 2025

We were lucky enough to travel to Sheffield and sing as part of the largest children's choir in the world!

Christmas Charity Singing

Our KS2 choir got into the Christmas spirit and had a festive trip to our local Co-op to raise money through singing.

We raised an incredible £129.24 for Ellerie's Glimmers in just half an hour!

Year 5/6 Christingle Service

Year 5/6 performed a Christingle Service to the rest of the school. Festive songs were performed, the children even performed a French Christmas song as part of the service.

Christmas Church Service

At Christmas, we learned a series of songs that tell the story of Christmas in our weekly singing assemblies. On the final Monday before Christmas, the children walked down to St John's Church in Cullingworth and performed the service to parents. The choir performed Silent Night beautifully during this service also.

BDAT Christmas Carol Service

We travelled to Bradford Cathedral to perform as part of the BDAT Christmas Carol Service. The choir performed a song as part of the service and our talented trumpet players performed as part of the BDAT Brass Band.

Cullingworth Community Awards

The KS2 choir were invited to perform at the Cullingworth Community Awards in September 2024, only 3 weeks into the new academic year! We started the new school year as we mean to go on - singing our hearts out!

Music

At Cullingworth Village Primary School we aim to inspire a love of music through practical, engaging activities.  Teamwork skills, self-confidence and self-evaluation is developed by learning songs, rhymes and other pieces of music which students have the opportunity to perform accompanied either with percussion or tuned instruments depending on their age.  Listening to a variety of music from different time periods and cultures allows students to develop their auditory skills, memory skills, and also to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the music.  Music is a prominent aspect of everyday life and therefore teaching these skills will allow our students to develop into young people who have a broad range of experiences and a bright future.

The national curriculum for music aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians
  • learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence
  • understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the interrelated dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations

Music is taught as a discrete lesson to all children in KS1 and KS2 with some songs linking to the current topic theme. As a school, we follow the Model Music Curriculum. All of our students in LKS2 have the opportunity to learn to play the trumpet, under guidance from a professional from Bradford Music Service.  Our pupils all participate in weekly singing practice, during which seasonal songs are taught. Music is further enhanced by visiting bands and ensembles. We offer a weekly extracurricular club (KS2 choir), and students who attend this club receive additional opportunities to perform within our school community, Academy Trust community, and the local community.

Music Lessons at CVPS

Years 3 and 4 have the opportunity to learn to play the trumpet as part of their music lessons. They have performed some of their learning to the rest of the school during their class assemblies.

In years 5 and 6, we use a variety of instruments in lessons. We use instruments such as glockenspiels to play instrumental parts of songs that we are learning, and have also used technology to compose some of our own music using a program on the laptops.
